Dear Family Partners,
I am writing to share an important update regarding a serious school safety matter under investigation in the Pajaro Valley Unified School District. A firearm, ammunition, and nearby mask were located on the Aptos High School campus on Sunday. The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office is investigating with the District’s full cooperation.
Based on information available at this time, we are not aware of a threat to Bonny Doon Elementary School. However, due to the seriousness of the situation, we are in direct communication with local law enforcement and are reviewing our campus safety procedures. Families may notice an increased law enforcement presence on or near the school campus this week, along with additional supervision and other safety steps consistent with our emergency preparedness plans.
We also ask families and students to report any concerns immediately. If you see or hear something that feels unsafe, online or in person, please contact the school office. With any urgent concerns, please call 911.
We also want to remind families that inaccurate or incomplete information may circulate on social media. Please rely on verified information from law enforcement, official district communications, and trusted traditional media outlets as this situation develops.
As this situation is still under active investigation, details are limited. We will share additional information with families if and when there are any updates that affect our school. Thank you for your partnership in keeping our students and staff safe.
Sincerely,
Mike (Mr. Heffner)
